Seashells Cosmos have unique tube-shaped petals, which is where this variety gets its name. This mix contains light and dark pink, white, and punchy carmine tones to name a few.
These cosmos are tall and productive, making them a wonderful first flower for any beginner growers. Remember - the more you cut on them, the more they'll pump out the blooms so be sure to snip away with abandon!
Approximate Seeds per Packet: 50
Variety/Hardiness: Annual
Sunlight: Full sun
Mature Height: 36-42”
Germination: 7-10 days at 20-22°C
Sowing:
Transplant: To sow indoors, start 4-6 weeks before the last frost date, covering seeds lightly. Transplant when all threats of frost have passed.
Direct Seeding: Direct seed after all threat of the last frost has passed & soil temperature is above 16°C, covering seeds lightly.
Care: Pinching will encourage branching, but may delay blooming slightly. May benefit from horizontal netting to support plants, especially in windy areas. Deadhead or cut regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.
Harvesting:
Fresh: When harvesting, choose stems that are just starting to open. Strip away any foliage that would fall below the water line so that it does not contribute to bacteria growth in the water. Adding flower preservative to their water will prolong their vase life.
TIP: We often leave some foliage on our cosmo stems to act as built-in foliage in our designs. We love the fluffy, dreamy look that it adds.
Dried: Not typically used as a dried flower.
