Approximate Seeds per Packet: 100
Variety/Hardiness: Annual
Sunlight: Full sun
Mature Height: 36″
Germination: 7-10 days at 21-24°C
Sowing:
Transplant: Sow indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost, barely covering the seed. Transplant after the last threat of frost has passed.
Direct Seeding: Direct seed after last frost, covering very lightly with soil.
Tip: Plant closer together for more dainty, manageable stems. Plant further apart for more substantial, beefy plants
Care: For direct seeded rows, thin seedlings once they have their first true leaves. Supports may be necessary to prevent flopping.
Harvesting:
Fresh: Harvest when spikes are at your desired length but before the plants look aged as they will shed. We often remove most of the foliage from our stems if it shows any bug damage. Adding flower preservative in their water will prolong their vase life.
Dried: Hang upright varieties upside down to maintain upright appearance. Allow stems of trailing varieties to be stored upright in a bucket to maintain trailing appearance.
Note: Amaranthus tends to easily self-seed itself easily.
