These sweet and tidy cosmos are a must-have item for any garden. Their colour is hard to describe - rosey pink around the edges and in the center with undertones of terracotta in the middle of the petals. As the blooms age, you'll notice a twinge of a warm glow coming from these petals. 2 1/2-inch blooms.
Cosmos are a great option for a beginner grower as you can direct sow them in the ground and watch them explode into bloom. Your garden or flower bed will soon be buzzing with pollinators. Cosmos are a cut-and-come-again type of flower, meaning the more you cut, the more they bloom so snip away!
Approximate Seeds per Packet: 25
Variety/Hardiness: Annual
Sunlight: Full sun
Mature Height: 24" – 28"
Germination: 7-10 days at 20-22°C
Sowing:
Transplant: To sow indoors, start 4-6 weeks before the last frost date, covering seeds lightly. Transplant when all threats of frost have passed.
Direct Seeding: Direct seed after all threat of the last frost has passed & soil temperature is above 16°C, covering seeds lightly.
Care: While this variety is naturally on the compact side, you can pinch/cut it back once plants are 8-10" tall to encourage longer stems. Pinching will encourage branching, but may delay blooming slightly so use your judgment. Deadhead or cut regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.
Harvesting:
Fresh: When harvesting, choose stems that are just starting to open. Strip away any foliage that would fall below the water line so that it does not contribute to bacteria growth in the water. Adding flower preservative to their water will prolong their vase life.
TIP: We often leave some foliage on our cosmo stems to act as built-in foliage in our designs. We love the fluffy, dreamy look that it adds.
Dried: Not typically used as a dried flower.
