Double Dutch Cosmos are vigorous plants that produce semi-double to fully double fluffy and ruffly flowers. Despite their delicate appearance, these flowers are surprisingly sturdy! These cosmos give any bouquet a romantic and carefree look in a hurry. The white variety is white with yellow centers.
Approximate Seeds per Packet: 50
Sunlight: Full sun
Mature Height: 36-48”
Germination: 7-10 days at 20-22°C
Transplant: To sow indoors, start 4-6 weeks before the last frost date, covering seeds lightly. Transplant when all threats of frost have passed.
Direct Seeding: Direct seed after all threat of the last frost has passed & soil temperature is above 16°C, covering seeds lightly.
Care: Pinching will encourage branching, but may delay blooming slightly. May benefit from horizontal netting to support plants, especially in windy areas. Deadhead or cut regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.
Fresh: When harvesting, choose stems that are approximately half open, for semi-double to fully double varieties. Strip away any foliage that would fall below the water line so that it does not contribute to bacteria growth in the water. Adding flower preservative to their water will prolong their vase life.
TIP: We often leave some foliage on our cosmo stems to act as built-in foliage in our designs. We love the fluffy, dreamy look that it adds.
Dried: Not typically used as a dried flower.
